The Order
And so get together over the hard drive of a computer and prepare to piece together the fruits of three seasons labours and sort out a running order for an album's worth of material. And a title for songs that have always had working titles but never the real thing. How about this for a title for the album.....and it becomes Blue Summer Dress. The summer dress crops up in the chorus of a song, and maybe it should have read blue summer dress instead.

And in a whisker the running order is sorted out. The opening song sits there because it was the very first thing MDR recorded and the rest of the songs just kind of fitted in order. Seamless? Painless. Yeah, it looks fine from here ..it looks as if it was meant to be that way and that makes it look..well, very, very good. Smugness all round then.

And the following day in the harsh light of the early morning one of the musicians in the band listens to it and like it a lot. No, not inevitable, he maintains. Loud in the car with dark clouds and a gash of pink low down near the horizon, it sounds like it was meant to sound. Kind of end of summery, kind of happy and melancholy, kind of lost and found.
